Okay! Okay! Okay! I really can’t wait more to tell you about this place… You may be thinking: “why is he so excited???” well… take a look at the pictures below and you will understand! YESS!! This is ALL gluten free, and its texture and taste are as good as it looks! WOW!
In this post, I will talk about LA CELIACOTECA, a small gluten free bakery in the 3rd of Talamanca street of Alcalá de Henares, near Madrid. To me, this is the greatest gluten free pastry making I have ever eaten anywhere in the world! And I can tell you I traveled quite a lot… There are gluten free bakeries and then this one. This is maybe “THE GLUTEN FREE BAKERY”!
I already heard of this place almost a month before going there… I was doing Face Time with my girlfriend and she was eating little heart-shaped puff gluten free pastries covered with chocolate and sugar… she told me it was “soooooo good”… but I must confess I was quite skeptical and just thought that would be an average gluten free bakery… okay, maybe very good, but not really outstanding out of all the other gluten free pastries I tasted before…
Then I went to visit her and we took breakfast there… in order, these were my feelings since I got into the shop: astonishment, surprise, indecision, delicious, shocked, yummy, tasty, still surprised, amazing, thrilling, awesome… it took me back to when I was a kid and I used to go to sleep to my grandpas’ house and we had hot chocolate and gluten-full croissants for breakfast…WOW!! Since then, every time I visit her, we eat breakfast there and usually try new pastries! Actually, every time we go there, they have novelties! And I also take advantage to take a box or two back home… don’t laugh… you’ll do the same as soon as you taste it!
Gluten free carrot cake, gluten free croissants, heart-shaped pastries, cream-filled sponge cakes, chocolate sponge cakes, gluten free biscuits, chocolate biscuits, butter biscuits, tuna pasties, bacon pasties, gluten free bread, birthday cakes, red velvet cakes, Sacher cakes… and a big etcetera, and ALL, EVERYTHING IN THERE, is gluten free!
I really recommend you to google it: “La Celiacoteca Alcalá de Henares”. You will not regret to take the 45 minutes train or a taxi from Madrid to Alcalá de Henares just to delight yourself with any of their recipes… I promise!
Other must eat gluten free restaurants in Alcala de Henares are:
1) Más que bocados sin gluten, an awesome 100% gluten free restaurant at 13th of Juan Carlos I Avenue at La Garena.
2) Tommy Mel’s, an American Style food restaurant at Cerrajeros Street.
3) Ginos, an italian restaurant at 13th of Juan Carlos I Avenue of La Garena.
Other options would be:
4) VIPS at 13th of Juan Carlos I Avenue of La Garena.
P.S.: Please keep in mind that in this blog I share my trips, anecdotes and experiences about gluten free travel around the world. It is possible that, in any of my trips, I go to some restaurant not trained by the associations where the risk of being contaminated with gluten exists. Thank you very much!
