A delicious encounter eating chocolate in Sana Locura, another of the gluten-free bakeries in Madrid

I met Vaida 9 years ago. It was at a Halloween party, when we were living in Finland. We were both looking for work in Helsinki and we became friends. Then we keep in touch through social networks. Although each time there was more time between each message, we never lost contact at all.

That day I had the afternoon off because Isabel was doing one of the last drills to prepare the exam for the MIR. Knowing that Vaida was in Madrid, I proposed to meet and catch up. She also did not have much time because she was also studying, so we decided to stay close to her house. I took the opportunity to search if there were nearby any of the gluten-free bakeries in Madrid that I wanted to try and… Bingo! The Sana Locura bakery was pretty close. At 49th of General Oraá street in Madrid. In addition, there was a parking about 200m. Better impossible!

Upon entering, I saw the showcase of gluten-free cakes. It was full of chocolate truffles, cream cakes, cream-filled donuts, chocolate cake, “Red Velvet” cake and a great etcetera. Everything gluten free, of course!

In fact, when I saw the Red Velvet cake, I remembered La Celiacoteca, one of the best gluten-free bakeries in Madrid. There I had seen it for the first time. In addition, for us it is the gluten-free bakery of reference. Not only because they do it very well, but because over the last three years, Isa and I had gone to breakfast there almost every two weeks. It will always be a special place.

Although I had already decided what I would take, I kept moving forward to see everything they had. When I arrived at the gluten free salty fridge, I liked seeing that they had a lot of variety too. Pizzas, salads, sandwiches, pies… everything looked very good! But we were in a bakery, so I would eat something salty at Más Que Bocados Sin Gluten, when we would have dinner with Isa. This also became our favorite restaurant thanks to the good treatment that Ana and Belén have always offered! Besides, the food there is delicious!

When Vaida arrived we smiled and hugged each other. It was incredible that so much time had passed. Nine years! I must admit that time had treated her better than me… we were very happy to see each other again. She took a quick look at the options she had and, like me, decided to order something sweet. I think we both love chocolate!

She ordered a gluten-free chocolate brownie and a coffee with milk. They brought a fairly large portion, with a nut on top. It looked delicious. And the coffee was also very well presented, with a drawing of milk in the foam.

Taking into account how much I like chocolate, for me it was easy to decide. I ordered the gluten-free chocolate truffle. It had seduced me as soon as I entered the bakery. In fact, it was the first thing I saw while giving the “good afternoon”. I felt hypnotized, like Aladdin when he sees the magic lamp for the first time. I had never seen such a big chocolate truffle. In addition, it was covered with chocolate chips. The decoration was a chocolate “hat” with a golden nugget. How much chocolate! Yum-yum!

While we were eating we were updating ourselves on how everything had gone along in recent years. We also talked a little about the plans for the future we had.

It was a shame not to be able to talk any longer. It was a very pleasant afternoon that was very short! We both have a very busy life and we have done many things, so I hope to see her soon to continue talking.
